ほぼ星座中央にあるM44プレセペ散開星団が何より有名である。アラビア名はアンナトラ（An natra）。実視等級3.7等。M44はε Cncとして扱われる。γ Cnc、δ Cnc、θ Cnc、ηCncの作る四辺形と中心のM44の領域は、中国の星座では二十八宿の鬼宿（和名：魂緒（たまを）の星）に当たり、積尸気（ししきあるいはせきしき）と呼ばれる。屍体の山から立ち上る精霊（魄）が集まる姿とされる。

茂さんのチューニングは、スライド・バーを多様するために、１弦を、Ｅの音からＤの音におとす、ドロプッドＤチューニングにしているそうです。このチューニングだと、他の曲（レギュラー・チューニングの曲）がやりやすいそうで、Ｌｉｔｔｌｅ Ｆｅａｔ［リトル・フィート]のＬｏｗｅｌｌ Ｇｅｏｒｇｅ［ローウェル・ジョージ]もこのチューニングをよく使っていました。
